Building Up Site Traffic Courtesy Of Online Forums

By admin On November 26, 2008 14 Comments

First off, if you’re new to the idea of online forums, the best thing to do is check out first any forum on the Net and observe its mechanics. See how it works. You can also do some research on that. Just google “forums” and you’ll get lots of information. We all know that work from home or making money online or Internet marketing or whatever you may call it is a very broad topic and that there are many things about it that one needs to understand deeply. And that doesn’t happen overnight. You need to look at how things operate, how the different Internet marketing aspects run, so that you will know how to effectively utilize them to your advantage. In this case, you’ll have to look at how forums will help put your work from home up there in the pedestal of success.

You see, when you don’t know how to deal with stuff on your work from home, those things will just turn into such waste. Take for example, online forums. For people who haven’t used them or known about them, these forums may just appear to be another place in the Internet to transact business, buy stuff, ask questions, get some helpful tips, and discuss or meet with people sharing the same interest, work and passion as yours. However, if you know how to sway the wand or chant the spell well enough, you can squeeze a good dose of juicy benefits from this opportunity for your work from home.

Although forums are somewhat complicated, the simplest logic for it is to follow the rules and do everything that you can to drive traffic to your site or to sell your products without breaking or disobeying any regulation set. But beyond following the rules, one should also look at the different types of forums and if they have a more specific focus on things. Because a forum is more valuable to your site when the two of them have a common denominator. Let’s say that your site revolves around a certain niche which is the industry of mobile phones. It would be really great for your work from home if you can find and participate in a forum focusing more on mobile phones and related stuff.

As mentioned, there are rules and guidelines that are being laid out in forums. One way to start building up traffic to your site is to first make sure you understand the rules completely and to avoid pissing the forum moderators at all cost. Most online forums have rules on marketing or advertising. They allow you to lead people to your site if you think you have answers to queries of other members. But it’s very likely that you’ll get hit by the “banhammer” if you blatantly advertise your site, your products or your work from home in the forum discussion especially in thread posts. Therefore, you have to be extra cautious.

More often than not, the signature feature in your profile is being activated. This is where you can leave a link to your site and drop in a few sales pitch while you’re at it to convince people. This is yet another effective way for pulling in traffic for your work from home. All you need to do is to actively participate in forums, contribute meaningful posts and try to help everyone with their questions as much as you can. In the long run, you’ll get noticed as one of the reputable and brilliant forum members. That’s also the time that people will notice your signature and eventually, click to your site. Since you’ve established yourself in the forum, others will have an impression that you have lots more to offer in your site so they start checking it out.

More ways to let everybody else notice you and your signature link in a good manner is to be generous enough to share things that other people may need or dearly appreciate like freebies, product samples, tips, access to Internet marketing tools that are new, effective and free, etc.

Your work from home will certainly profit from your efforts of creating traffic to your site. And what better way to do that is to join in forums. As long as you know your way through these online forums and how to make use of them properly, you’ll definitely have an edge in the world of Internet marketing.

Taking A Closer Look At Online Forums

By admin On November 6, 2008 4 Comments

It’s a given that people who work from home are not new to online forums since a significant part of their work is posting in those forums. Not only they gain quality traffic from there, but they also get to meet different personalities sharing the same interest as theirs specially regarding work from home. Engaging in online forums gives you the opportunity to ask questions and find information that you need. At the same time, you get to help out with other people’s concerns and clarifications which will be a definite plus for your credibility and the reputation of your work from home.

Well, why don’t we take a quick trip down the basics of online forums? First off, forums consist of numerous discussions where people can post their questions, views, opinions and replies to a certain topic. The discussions can last up to several days or weeks, sometimes, years. These forums are divided into several boards which are created to host one particular topic or subject of discussion. It’s a common fashion for forums to have a brief description of the boards to help the user determine what kind of discussions are going on in that forum board. Since forum posting is part of your work from home, you must be careful in joining and if you ever did, you should be able to abide with the existing rules and guidelines so as not to get banned.

Threads in its simplest sense are conversations under a certain forum board. When one creates a new conversation about a particular topic, he is said to be starting a new thread of discussion. Most forums have guidelines for creating threads. Just make sure you have read and understood those for your own sake and for the sake of your work home as well.

Before joining, you might want to check out the whole online forum first. See if it fits with the product you’re offering or the niche you’re in. Check if you can actually gain traffic from there. And while you are at it, keep in mind the terms of agreement and the rules that are stated in the forums. As for the discussions, just make sure you post your reply to the appropriate thread. Be friendly and be professional when dealing with other forum members. Remember that there are administrators and moderators watching you and your every move at a distance.

These basic forum posting tips are bits of helpful reminders for everyone out there doing work from home, and also for those who are considering venturing the online business as well.

More Forum Posting Tips

By admin On November 3, 2008 7 Comments

Since forum posting is a vital part of one’s work from home specially in terms of generating qualified traffic, it wouldn’t hurt to dish out some more tips on how to make your participation in forums as effective as possible. After all, Halloween is over and Christmas is just around the corner, so might as well give out some few good tips for everyone.

Some people start a topic like, “Who here wants to say something about blah-blah?” or “I’m surprised no one talks about blah-blah. Why is that so?” Not really big of a violation but if you have to say something or start a topic, it’s better off if you give some of your views or points on the subject matter and later on ask others of their opinion rather than sound like you’re urging others to talk about it first. Some of your fellow forum members might be annoyed by that kind of behavior. You might not know it but that could be a big ouch on your work from home.

There are times in your work from home and your forum posting that the messages you want to deliver may not be understood correctly or as you intend it to be. It could be a simple typo or a case of misplacing some words or phrases that may create a different tone you originally meant. A good forum member must be able to correct the misunderstanding or confusion his posts might have caused to others. If the fault is really on your part, apologizing can’t be that hard, can it?

In line with what is mentioned above, try your best to use the proper punctuation marks or follow forum guidelines on writing and posting format, if there are any. You should also refrain from using a lot of abbreviations or Internet jargons unless they are considered as a standard on that particular forum. These might look like petty things but a harmonious forum environment begins with these small-yet-equally-important reminders for your work from home.

Of course, nobody is perfect. There are times that you might have done something wrong or posted stuff that is in violation with the existing forum rules and you aren’t aware of it. People might send you some messages, comments or warnings. Don’t dismiss them quickly nor think negative of their efforts because they might just be helping you become aware of the misses and slips that you have made. That way, you’ll have enough time to fix things up and protect your reputation as well as the name of your work from home in that forum.

Lastly, don’t be too quick to judge grammatical errors. Keep in mind that most forums are international and a lot of the members are using a language different from their native tongue. Moreover, avoid being a grammar Nazi. It’s okay to point out mistakes to help the poster clear things up for the benefit of everyone. But if it turns out to be just a disgusting habit to insult your fellow forum members and make a fool out of them, then by all means, you deserve to be hit by the ‘ban hammer.’

Since your work from home is very much important to you, it’s a given that you would do anything to keep it running and be productive at it in every way. On that note, it’s also understood that you will try your best to do nothing to imperil the success of your work from home. So be cautious enough when you participate in forums and make sure that you are effectively doing it for your online business.

The Work From Home Insider: Participating In Forums Effectively

By admin On November 1, 2008 2 Comments

Forum participation is an essential part of work from home. When you join and participate in forums, you do a lot of things for your business. You open opportunities for more traffic, if you place the link to your site in your signature. You get to meet other people online who may be of great help to you and vice versa. You get to establish yourself as a reputable online marketer as you participate actively and contribute meaningful posts and answers to the forum.

However, you must always be careful in whatever you do in the world of forums since there are rules and regulations that you must agree and follow. Violate these rules and you will get kicked out of the forum and that won’t do good for you and your work from home. Before posting or even signing up, read carefully the forum guidelines. So that you’ll know how to squeeze your way through the forum without creating such chaos.

Different forums have different set of rules but they tend to agree with some things. The following are the common things you have to take into account when participating in forums:

A. Make sure you read posts and understand the thread fully before posting anything. There are forums that do not allow editing once a user has submitted his post. If you didn’t read carefully what the discussion thread is all about and you posted incorrectly or your reply was off-topic, that would create some unnecessary stir up within the thread. Some may report you to the moderators and the worst scenario here is you getting banned. And you don’t want that for your work from home, do you? But if its a first violation, most forums will just give you a warning and will remind you of the existing guidelines to follow.

B. Avoid quoting large blocks of text or huge images. That eats up space in the forums and on the thread. It will also appear a bit annoying to some forum members who also work from home if they see the same thing all over again as they navigate through the thread. If it’s just a few lines of text, it’s okay. What you can do is quote a portion of it and use ellipsis (…) or <snip>’ or something of that sort.

C. Post articles or start a thread carefully. There are also guidelines for starting threads. It should be followed accordingly by all means or else, the mods won’t be too kind and merciful in killing your chances to gain traffic for your work from home. Again, just read through the forums. There might be instances that what you want to post have already been posted before. So to avoid duplication, you have to keep yourself updated of various topics being posted.

You already realize how important forums are in your work from home. The more reason for you to exert extra effort on how to effectively deal with life in these forums.

Forum Post meets Article

By admin On June 19, 2008 2 Comments

For those who are into article marketing or article writing as their work from home or part of it, it’s important not to mix up things that should not be mixed up like articles and forum posts.

One fine moment when I was on the verge of my work from home experience specifically crawling through forums, I happen to stumble upon one thread which quite caught my attention. It was around 400-500 words and occupied most of the screen space plus you need to scroll down a bit to read the remainder of it. Well, maybe it was just a really long inquiry on something or an update packed with details that can’t be missed out. So, I read on. To my surprise, it WAS an article and the added irony is that it’s about article writing or article marketing.

The article versus forum post issue has been on the edge of debates and discussions for quite some time but the majority seems to be in favor of putting a thick line between the two. What’s for forums should be for forums and what’s for blogs or sites should be for blogs or sites. Period.

But how does a forum post differ from an article? The world wide web offers a quick rundown of their differences.

Length

Usually, articles consist of not less than 300 words. Articles with 400-700 words are said to be very effective and have greater chances of being approved in article directories and be read thoroughly by online readers. On the other hand, forum posts are generally shorter since they only ask something, give an answer or generate a brief topic to be discussed most of the time. Yet, this doesn’t apply always because forum members oftentimes post an inquiry with numerous questions in it and some added text that the words may sum up to more than 200 or 300. Also, when forum people provide answers to these long inquiries or information on a topic, what more or less happens is that their posts tend to be quite lengthy too or shall I say more detailed. Of course, that’s understandable. However, if forum posts can have as many words as those of the articles or even more, the latter can never be less than 250 words for the directories will surely turn them down. We don’t want that to happen to our work from home, do we?

Structure

Forum posts are somehow casual and conversational in tone but nonetheless informational. Articles are more often than not formal in nature and have several known and distinguished elements which include the headline, the lead, the body and the conclusion. But when it comes to forums, one doesn’t have to bother thinking what headline fits appropriately or how to conclude this and that. You just type it away, hit the ‘Reply’ button and that’s it.

Purpose

The common purpose of articles and forum posts is to provide links leading back to your site. Specifically though, forums are haven for inquiries, answers, opinions, suggestions and discussions. Meanwhile, articles exist mainly to attract readers through its content which may be informational, entertaining or both.

Maybe this forum-post-and-article-confusion is no big of a deal for some. But you just can’t afford to take for granted every important detail in your work from home no matter how small or huge it is, right?
