The Thin Line Between Work From Home And Your Day Job

By admin On September 26, 2008 Under Work From Home

We all have to work for a living, right? Some of us bury ourselves deep within our desks. There are some who sweat out under the scorching heat of the sun. There are also others who have been traveling back and forth every country or continent as part of their job. Still, some enjoy working within the comforts of their home. We all have different jobs demanding different tasks. Along with these jobs are certain things to consider like how are you getting paid, how satisfied are you with your job, how competent are you in terms of your work and others.

Nowadays, the issues on which kind of job one prefers arise whenever topics about work from home is brought up. What are the reasons why some choose to work from home? Why do some still stick to their regular day jobs? These are some of the main concerns that everyone is looking into. Not only that, several factors and considerations are already being viewed and checked when it comes to what path should one follow. The path to work from home? Or the regular 9-5?

One of the reasons or factors why a number of individuals are trying their luck doing work from home is some of the freedom it offers. To name some, we have freedom from bosses or supervisors and co-workers that are most of the time annoying. With work from home, you can be the boss that you want to be. You are also free to choose which set of hours you want to work on. If you feel you can be very much productive working at nights or mid-afternoons, then you can do that. If you want a flexible schedule like working 4 hours in the morning, taking the afternoon off, then having another 4 hours of work early in the evening, by all means, you can. It’s your call since you are the boss and nobody else.

Also, you can work anywhere in your home. You can start with your tasks in the kitchen. Then you can finish it in your bedroom. You can even work in the bathroom if you feel comfortable there. Nobody will really care, unless someone needs to use the bathroom that is.

However, being your own boss means all responsibility is on your shoulders. That also means that most of the work must be done by you alone. One of the reasons why not everybody is cut-out for work from home is because not all can discipline themselves. Not everybody can focus on their goals without being distracted by other things or constantly reminded of their duty. What you can do about this is to assess yourself. Do you think you are really ready to do work from home? Are you confident enough that you can concentrate on your goals and that you can do everything that needs to be done in order to achieve those goals by yourself? Can you assure yourself that you won’t get sidetracked easily? If you feel that you have what it takes to work from home and if you are sure you can hit the target amidst all the challenges that may come forth, then you might be up for the world of online business.

Another good thing with work from home is that it lessens your expenses a bit like gas or transportation. You don’t have to bother yourself buying new office clothes too. Just wear anything you’re comfortable with, pajamas, boxers, old clothes, whatever. But then again, at some point, your work from home may require you to draw out some cash from your pockets for various reasons. So, it doesn’t follow that you are free from any costs there are. Still, most would agree that opportunities to save yourself from further expenditures are already great help.

One more issue that comes along with work from home is this thing with your social life. Doing online business in your homes may limit the chances of interacting with other people face-to-face. Although you can find friends and meet new personalities through forums, social networks, discussion boards and the like, it can never replace the feeling that only physical interaction can give. But if you’re that kind of person who is already satisfied being close to his family and loved ones, this shouldn’t be a big deal.

These are the stuff that distinguish work from home from the usual office work. Yet the most popular factor would be the income. If you are an employee, you can expect a fixed income out of your job. If you work from home, you can double or even triple that income. That is if you do things right. But if you don’t, you might end up failing and earning a single dime or none at all. So you see how the risks are higher if you work from home. Your success lies in your hands. You make or break your way to your goals.

Now that you know the difference, it’s all up to you to decide which works best for you – do work from home full-time or stay with your regular day job.
