The Work From Home Insider: The Google-FTC-Facebook Current Hot Topic

By admin On February 22, 2010 Under Marketing Efforts and Techniques, Work From Home

The Internet never runs out of hot topics, juicy controversies from all kinds of genres and categories, flaming issues that get most people’s attention. The online world is indeed a database of interesting stories and information. From the most popular video scandals to the intriguing pyramid and e-mail scams to the shocking news about huge corporations and everything in between, there’s room for sizzling discussion and sharing of thoughts. We are only halfway to the first quarter of this year yet so many things have become hot topics not only to individuals who work from home but also to the entirety of the blogging community.

One of those topics that has currently been ignited revolves around the reports and talks stating that Google has permanently banned over 15,000 advertisers over the last few months. If you are wondering what this is all about, well, Google has this advertising venue and opportunity popularly known as Google AdWords. It has been here for several years and serves as Google’s main source of revenue. Several folks work from home as a direct marketer or as an advertiser. They make their living by joining AdWords and by making use of it, a lot of them has become quite successful, thanks to AdWords, PPC advertising and all that.

Now, talks have it that more than 15,000 advertisers have their Google AdWords accounts banned for life and this happened over the past few months. There are no exact details as of the moment, but many are speculating that it may have something to do with what the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has imposed just last December regarding disclaimers, testimonials and disclosures. Some strongly believe that this is one way of Google taking action or complying to the said FTC rule.

Another possible reason which many has in mind is that Google is trying to wield out some space by banning accounts and, in turn, offer that space to its sponsor buddies. There is also the fact that Google is constantly cleaning up and banning accounts they suspect are fake or scam-related, but just like how chemotherapy works in which some of the healthy cells are killed alongside the cancer ones, there are legitimate marketers that got the boot too. What makes it even worse for those who were so unfortunate is that they were banned for no reason and that there’s nothing they can do about it but to start from scratch with their AdWords advertising. This issue has brought up a lot of complaints towards Google.

Because of these reported “incidents” concerning Google AdWords, many direct marketers and those who work from home have been searching for a better alternative for advertising and now, they are claiming to have found it on Facebook. Several marketers have already joined the Facebook Ads bandwagon. They say that Facebook has way more traffic and that you can expect a really targeted traffic since there are settings and options in Facebook advertising wherein you can specify what type of audience should see your ads. According to those marketers, Facebook Ads are cheaper compared to Google AdWords and that Facebook, unlike Google, loves and wants marketers and advertisers. This just further heats up the rivalry between Google and Facebook.

Those are the current hot topics that one should be aware of because you wouldn’t know how those stuff may affect your work from home or online business. Just like in the real world, the only thing constant in this virtual domain is change. So you need to keep up the pace and be aware of what’s hot and what’s not in the Internet marketing world for your online career to ever survive.
