Work From Home Guide: Using The Split-Testing Strategy

By admin On November 25, 2009 Under Marketing Efforts and Techniques, Work From Home

We hear about the term “test” almost every day and many people have used it several times, conveying different meanings. Scientists perform lab tests with their experiments. Students take tests to see how much they have learned and absorbed from their lessons. Those who are aiming to get their driver’s license must pass certain driving tests. If you want to check the speed of your Internet connection, you can try online speed tests. All these and more serve as proof that tests and anything involving testing can be found almost anywhere and in any field including Internet marketing and work from home.

There are many “tests” in online business as there are in other endeavors and one of those is what we call split-testing which somehow had its roots from direct mail marketing. Split-testing, or A/B testing for some, is a known marketing strategy wherein you test out a version or versions of the original sample together with the said original sample. Those versions are created by altering some variables or elements present in the original one. This is to see which of the two delivers better results and will be the one you are going to use.

Split-testing is done on several work from home stuff and here are the most common ones:

On E-mail
We all know how important e-mail marketing campaign is. That is why most people who work from home or involve themselves in online business use the split-testing strategy on their e-mails. What they would do is change either the subject line, the call-to-action, some text and images or other elements within the original e-mail that they think may have some varying effects. For instance, the original version has a far different headline than the newer one. You can split-test these two in order to determine which version generated the most responses.

On Web Pages
Come to think of it: If you work from home, you are going to need a website of your own, your “online presence” as others may put it. It will be a surprise if you, as an Internet marketer, still don’t have a website. In case you already have one, then go on with your split-testing strategy. You may change the template, the design, the background and other things and see which version has recorded more visits and views.

On Landing Pages
One of the many techniques included in landing page optimization is split-testing. We all know that an effective landing page can draw in a huge number of visitors and can eventually turn those traffic into sales leads and customers. The concept is still the same with what has been mentioned earlier on e-mails and website pages. There will be two landing pages with a little tweak on a few of their details. Then, the Internet marketer will test them out. The better landing page wins.

On Google AdWords
Some people especially bloggers with AdSense have been doing split-testing with their AdWords to find out how they can improve their advertising strategies and those banner ads. A small adjustment on the ad’s headlines or second line might do the trick for you and for your work from home. You’ll never know if you don’t try, right?

Ive done and undergo myself in a lot of test, for example last week i’ve been hospitalize and i’ve done a lot of laboratory test, hehehe..Anyway when it comes to online business i also experience some test such as low traffic from my blog and low income from online business like adsense. Maybe due to economic downturn. But it doesn’t mean we lose a lot of hope right? Just still continue what you love to do.
